Responsibilities include:

• Analysis, experimentation, interpretation, classification and measurement of the chemical, physical or biological composition and characteristics of plant, animal or food products
• Conducting analytical, experimental, investigative and therapeutic duties, and tests in support of the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of human ailments, in hospitals, other patient care establishments and field locations
• Conducting analytical, experimental or investigative duties involving the planning of the approach, the selection and publication of established methods and techniques; or the quantitative or qualitative analysis of physical, chemical or biological substances;
• Providing technical advisory services to professional staff in related fields;
• The operation and calibration of laboratory, research and medical equipment including the development of methodology
• The evaluation of materials, products and substances such as air, water, and pesticides against physical, chemical, biochemical or biological standards
• The inspection for conformity to prescribed specification of related equipment or supplies purchased, manufactured or prepared for government and/or industry
• Theoretical or technical planning, development and establishment of laboratory procedures and practices
• The theoretical or technical interpretation or reporting of the results of laboratory tests, procedures or analyses beyond that normally associated with standardized or established methodology
• The conduct of research aimed at the discovery and interpretation of new facts or applications in the relevant discipline;
• the gathering of data and resulting analysis, evaluation and interpretation of laboratory/medical tests or analyses, and the writing of reports and recommendations related to the above duties;
• Writing standards, specifications, procedures or manuals related to the above duties
• Planning, development and training
• Supervising other staff
