Local governments are important partners in reaching our shared climate goals. Through their management of buildings, transportation, water, waste and land use planning, local governments control or influence over 50 percent of Canada’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Local governments are also uniquely positioned to engage citizens about reducing emissions and adapting to a changing climate in their community.
With CleanBC and the Roadmap to 2030, B.C. is taking action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, create a low-carbon economy and support technological innovation. Together with a wide range of partners, we are also making investments that will help us adapt to and prepare for a changing climate through the Climate Preparedness and Adaptation Strategy.
Here you will find information, resources and tools to support communities in both reducing emissions and preparing for climate change. While information is categorized into emissions reduction and climate adaptation, you are encouraged to use all available information for integrated climate action planning.
Sometimes called low carbon resilience, integrated climate action planning connects the dots between actions that reduce emissions and prepare communities for climate impacts. This approach embeds climate into core local government operations and financial decision-making.
