Project: Expo Line Escalator Replacements
Location: Metro Vancouver
AECOM Canada Architects Ltd. led the innovative work on Translink’s Expo Line escalator replacements project. Responding to the light rail transit system’s aging infrastructure, AECOM replaced 44 escalators in 17 stations, dating from 1986 to 1990. Their multi-disciplinary engineering analysis and design ensured safety enhancements and efficient project management, minimizing disruptions for transit users during escalator closures. The strategic approach also benefited maintenance staff. AECOM's commitment to safety, efficiency, and positive user experiences solidifies the project's significance in supporting a reliable public transportation system for Metro Vancouver.
Project: TransLink - SeaBus Maintenance & Storage Facilities Upgrades
Location: North Shore – North Vancouver
The TransLink SeaBus Administration Building, originally constructed in 1976, underwent significant upgrades led by Ausenco Engineering Canada Inc. to enhance operations and safety. Ausenco coordinated a multi-disciplined design team for improvements, spanning interior finishes, lighting, electrical, HVAC, and a new storage building. The project prioritized safety, upgrading the machine shop for SeaBus maintenance personnel and enhancing accessibility. Though not directly impacting the public, these changes created a safer, more positive workplace for essential SeaBus staff.
Overcoming challenges such as maintaining machine shop operations during construction and handling hazardous materials showcased this work’s innovation and flexibility. The completed project demonstrates excellence in design, emphasizing safety, quality, and innovation. The improvements designed by Ausenco will allow the maintenance and administration of the SeaBus ferries for many years to come.
