Freda Ens is a strong, resilient and proud Haida woman. She dedicated her life and work in the BC Public Service to strive for justice and make meaningful and lasting change for Indigenous Peoples in this province and beyond. Freda was inducted into the Hall of Excellence in 2022 and retired the same year.
Freda is the Senior Family Support Worker with the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General’s Family Information Liaison Unit (BC FILU), providing critical supports to families of murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls, men, boys and 2SLGBTQIA+ peoples. After unimaginable traumas endured in early life, Freda has been an advocate and changemaker for over 30 years. She became the Executive Director of the non-profit Vancouver Police and Native Liaison Society working with police, Crown and other justice and community agencies to support those most vulnerable in the Downtown Eastside.
