Medical Services Plan (MSP) premiums were eliminated as of January 1, 2020.
British Columbia residents are no longer charged MSP premiums. Enrolment in MSP remains mandatory for all residents.
The structure of MSP accounts remains the same: accounts include an account holder and, if applicable, a spouse and/or children. All new and returning residents are required to complete two steps for MSP enrolment:
B.C. residents are responsible for maintaining their account information with HIBC. To update your MSP account information, including address, family structure, and immigration documentation, visit Managing Your MSP Account.
Address updates can also be submitted at Address Change BC.
If an individual is covered under a group plan and the group ceases administering MSP coverage, the individual will automatically be placed on a self-administered plan. HIBC will notify the individual when self-administered coverage is established.
MSP supplementary benefits provide partial payment for certain medical services obtained in B.C. (for example, massage therapy and chiropractic services) and may provide access to other income-based programs. Visit Supplementary Benefits for more information and how to apply.
