For eligible B.C. residents, the Medical Services Plan pays for medically required services of physicians and surgeons, and dental or oral surgery performed in a hospital.
In Canada, public health insurance is available to eligible residents. Canadian citizens and permanent residents can apply for provincial health insurance.
In B.C., public health insurance is called the Medical Services Plan (MSP). It covers the cost of medically-necessary insured doctor services.
For information on MSP services for B.C. residents, group plan administrators, and medical and health-care practitioners, please see the following sections:
Health Insurance BC administers MSP on behalf of the Ministry of Health and can answer your questions about medical coverage. For contact information, visit the resident, administrator or practitioner section links above.
MSP premiums were eliminated as of January 1, 2020. Go to MSP Premium Elimination to learn more.
