Social Housing

The Province, through BC Housing, works with partners to provide social housing. Social housing is a housing development that government subsidizes and that either government or a non-profit housing partner owns and/or operates.

In addition to social housing the Province also provides rent supplements for low-income working families with children and low-income seniors.

Supportive housing is a type of social housing with on-site support and services.

Social housing and rent supplements are part of the Province's larger housing affordability strategy.

BC Housing is a Crown Corporation that supports social housing, affordable housing, emergency shelters and out reach for homeless people and regulates residential construction. It also administers rent supplements. BC Housing reports to the Minister of Housing.

TRAC (the Tenant Resource and Advisory Centre) also offers information for tenants on renting in BC.
