Land use planning sets the strategic direction to guide sustainable resource stewardship and management of provincial public land and waters to meet economic, environmental, social, and cultural objectives.
Ninety-four percent of British Columbia is comprised of provincial public land and existing land use plans cover over 90 percent of public lands. Since 2018, the B.C. government has been modernizing land use planning in partnership with First Nations, and through engagement with local governments, stakeholders, and communities as part of its commitments to advance reconciliation, support a strong economy, and protect ecosystem health and biodiversity.
