Justice reform initiatives - public safety

The B.C. government continues to improve public safety by transforming the province’s criminal justice system.

This means working with police, corrections, Crown and road safety partners to find efficiencies that improve access for British Columbians and help reduce pressures across the system.

One key driver of the work government is doing is the Missing Women Commission of Inquiry report. The provincial government has committed to fulfilling the spirit of the recommendations in the report, and immediately took a number of steps to better protect vulnerable women. These included additional support to agencies providing services to women and children in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, appointing a champion, initiating discussions with northern municipalities to enhance safety along Highway 16 and developing stronger prosecution policies and practices.
