Low income grant supplement for surviving spouses of veterans who received war veterans allowance

Last updated on September 5, 2024

The low income grant supplement for surviving spouses of veterans who received a War Veterans Allowance allows the surviving spouses of veterans who have a low income to claim the supplement if their home owner grant is reduced or eliminated because their principal residence is assessed above the grant threshold.

The low income grant supplement for surviving spouses of veterans who received war veteran allowance is administered and dispersed by the Property Taxation Branch of the Ministry of Finance.

You must apply separately for the home owner grant and the low income grant supplement for surviving spouses of veterans who received war veterans allowance. If you apply for the low income grant supplement with the Province and your principal residence is eligible to receive the full home owner grant, the low income grant supplement application will be denied.

Find out:

Do I qualify?

To qualify for the low income grant supplement you must:

If you have an adjusted net income or adjusted household net income between $30,000 and $32,000, you may receive half the supplement amount.

The supplement amount

Most surviving spouses of veterans who received a War Veterans Allowance who apply and qualify for the supplement receive a cheque for $845 ($1,045 in a northern and rural area).

The amount of the supplement depends on two things:

  • Your income, and
  • The assessed value of your principal residence

The supplemental amount will not exceed what you would have received if your principle residence qualified for the home owner grant.
