Property taxes on Nisga'a Lands and Treaty Land

Last updated on September 16, 2024

If you live on Nisga'a Lands or the Treaty Lands of a Modern Treaty Nation (meaning the Nisga'a Nation, Tsawwassen First Nation, Maa-nulth First Nation or the Tla'amin Nation), the Modern Treaty Nation may require you to pay property taxes. If the Modern Treaty Nation levies property taxes, you will receive your property tax notice from and pay your property taxes to the Modern Treaty Nation.

You are not eligible for the provincial property tax deferment and home owner grant programs when you pay property taxes for your principal residence to a Modern Treaty Nation. However, the Modern Treaty Nation may offer its own home owner grant program.

If you have questions about your property taxes, contact the  Modern Treaty Nation.
