How the Program Works

Last updated on September 18, 2024

All RMI communities must complete a three-year Resort Development Strategy (Strategy). The Strategy identifies the long-term vision for the community and outlines the plans and projects the municipality will undertake to achieve the objectives of the program. Once the Strategy has been completed, the resort municipality signs an agreement with the Province and, subject to an annual appropriation, funding is provided to communities.

To understand the progress and outcomes of projects, resort municipalities report quarterly to the Province.

RMI is an incentive-based program, where annual funding is calculated based on the following:

Fixed Base Funding

3-year MRDT average at 2% rate

OR $100,000 program minimum

+

Performance-based Lift*

(year-over-year MRDT growth) x (base funding)

*equally adjusted to stay within program budget

Total program budget is $13 million per year.
