The improvements to this section of highway include:
- Widening Highway 1 to accommodate eastbound and westbound high occupancy vehicle (HOV) and electric vehicle (EV) lanes in the median between the 216th Street and 264th Street Interchanges
- Constructing a new crossing at Glover Road, including new three-metre-wide multi-use paths in both directions and increased clearance over the highway
- Reconfiguring the existing 232nd Street Interchange and the replacement of the existing crossing, including three-metre-wide multi-use paths in both directions and increased clearance over the highway
- Replacing the existing railway crossing immediately east of Glover Road, including increased highway clearance

- Substantial construction completion of highway widening in 2026
The 232nd Street Interchange and Highway 1 project includes:
- Reconfiguring the current Cloverleaf Interchange design into a Partial Cloverleaf design
- Decommissioning the existing northwest loop ramp and southeast loop ramp to address the short weaving and merging issues with the current interchange
- Decommissioning the Highway 1 eastbound off-ramp to 232nd Street southbound
- Signalizing the intersection of 232nd Steet and 72 Avenue, south of Highway 1for a safer and more efficient connection to Highway 1 eastbound
- Improving the capacity and efficiency of the existing 232nd Street roundabout
- Increasing the height of the 232nd Street Underpass to 5.2 m, to reduce the risk of over-height collisions
- Building a new local access road for municipal traffic off 70A Avenue, to separate it from eastbound on-ramp traffic

Project objectives
The objectives for these improvements include:
- Reducing Highway 1 congestion
- Improving overall safety and capacity of the highway and the 232nd Street Interchange
- Eliminating low clearance issues for commercial vehicles on the corridor
- Encouraging motorists towards more sustainable transportation rather than traveling in single occupancy vehicles
- Supporting increased use of existing Highway 1 transit services by improving transit travel times and reliability
- Supporting CleanBC and reducing greenhouse gas emissions with HOV / EV lanes
