The Indigenous Applicant Advisory Service is expanded to all Indigenous applicants (First Nations status or non-status, Métis or Inuit) seeking to work in the BC Public Service. Indigenous applicants interested in BC Public Service positions including temporary assignments, auxiliary appointments, permanent part-time, permanent full-time and expressions of interest can receive high level advice and guidance on the hiring system and process. |
September 2019 | Evaluation of the 6-month pilot Indigenous Applicant Advisory Service occurs. |
February 2019 | A 6-month pilot of the Indigenous Applicant Advisory Service commences with a group of Indigenous applicants providing input. |
November 2018 |
Work gets underway in developing the Indigenous Applicant Advisory Service. Consultations occur with Indigenous people internal and external to the BC Public Service to identify systemic barriers in the BC Public Service hiring process and provide feedback into the development of the Indigenous Applicant Advisory Service. |
October 2018 | Amanda is hired as the Indigenous applicant advisor in response to the Diversity & Inclusion Three-Year Action Plan commitment to support Indigenous applicants, inform improvements to remove barriers in hiring and promote accessibility to public service employment opportunities. |
May 2018 |
The B.C. provincial government releases the Draft Principles that guide the BC Public Service on relationships with Indigenous peoples. This further solidifies the commitment to true and lasting reconciliation with Indigenous peoples in B.C. |
March 2018 | Consultations occur on the Diversity & Inclusion Three-Year Action Plan commitments, including the commitment of a new Indigenous recruiter. |
October 2017 | The B.C. provincial government releases the Diversity & Inclusion Three-Year Action Plan that identified 15 commitments to strengthen diversity and inclusion in the BC Public Service, including the establishment of an Indigenous recruiter. |
July 2017 | The B.C. provincial government commits to true, lasting reconciliation with First Nations in British Columbia, including fully adopting and implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) of Canada Calls to Action. |
