Many major appliances used for cooling or freezing purposes (refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers and air conditioners) include refrigerants, which can be harmful to the environment and human health if they are not properly handled and disposed of. By recycling your used large appliances, you also reduce the need for raw materials to manufacture new products.
Drop off your end-of-life major appliances, free of charge, at one of the program drop-off locations. To find the location nearest you, go to the Site Locator website or call 1-888-252-4621.
The material composition of major appliances is reported to be approximately 75 percent metal. Of this metal, processors report that 98 percent of ferrous (metal containing iron) and non-ferrous metal is recovered and entered back into the commodities market. Refrigerants are safely removed by trained technicians and sent for recycling or destruction.
Annual reports and stewardship plans as provided to the Province are posted for convenience.
