Instructions for using the BC ARM Tool

Last updated on March 25, 2021

The BC Application Risk Management (ARM) Tool is an online application risk assessment tool that allows producers to quickly determine the risk of manure or nutrient loss after a field application.

Complete an application risk assessment using the BC ARM Tool using the following steps:

  1. Open the BC ARM tool by using the link at the bottom of this page.

  2. Click the approximate location of the field you want to apply manure or fertilizer on the interactive map. A pop-up box should appear that shows the 24 and 72-hour predicted cumulative precipitation for several dates.

  3. Click one of the buttons on the bottom of the pop-up box if you want to apply today or tomorrow. Risk assessments using the BC ARM Tool should be completed within 24 hours of application for each field that will receive manure or fertilizer.

    Example
    Field Risk Assessment

After the date is selected, you will be directed to a field assessment questionnaire. Note the 24 and 72-hour predicted cumulative precipitation has been entered automatically. Fill out all portions of the questionnaire to receive a risk rating.

  4. Document that the application risk assessment has been completed by using either the ‘Print/Save’ or ‘Send/Email’ buttons at the bottom of the questionnaire. If the ‘Print/Save’ button is used, your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc.) will download a PDF document. If the ‘Send/Email’ button is used, a pop-up box will let you enter an email address to receive a PDF document.

Check before you spread

New regulation requires a risk assessment in High Precipitation Areas prior to spreading in October, February, or March.  The Manure Application Risk Management tool can provide this risk assessment.
