Go Electric Offerings for Indigenous Communities and Businesses

Last updated on September 18, 2024

There are several CleanBC Go Electric Program offerings available that help to support the adoption of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) by Indigenous businesses and communities in B.C.

Program Offers

Go Electric EV Charger Rebate Program

The Province, in partnership with BC Hydro, FortisBC, and Natural Resources Canada, is providing rebates for the purchase and installation of electric vehicle (EV) chargers for homes, multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs), and workplaces across B.C.

Indigenous individuals, communities, and businesses in B.C. are eligible for increased rebates of 75% of the costs to purchase and install charging equipment at their homes or workplaces. Funding levels are as follows:

  • Single-family homes are eligible for rebates up to 75% of eligible costs with a maximum of $750 per charging station.
  • MURBs are eligible for rebates up to 75% of eligible costs with a maximum of $4,500 per charging station for Indigenous applicants who receive electricity from BC Hydro. Indigenous applicants who receive electricity from FortisBC can receive up to 75% of eligible costs to a maximum of $6,000 per charging station while federal funding lasts.
  • Workplaces are eligible for rebates up to 75% of eligible costs with a maximum of $4,500 per station for Indigenous applicants who receive electricity from BC Hydro. Indigenous applicants who receive electricity from FortisBC can receive up to 75% of eligible costs to a maximum of $6,000 per charging station while federal funding lasts.

Note that MURB and workplace rebate applicants must apply for pre-approval before purchasing or installing chargers.

The EV Charger Rebate Program also offers advisory and consultation services via Plug In BC for the installation of EV charging stations in MURBs and workplaces. The ‘EV Charging Advisor’ can provide services to help find charging solutions for a site, including onsite presentations and education, and general site consultations. These consultations are primarily an introductory overview and are not a substitute for an electrician or for legal advice.

Go Electric Public Charger Program

The CleanBC Go Electric Public Charger Program is intended to increase the number of public Direct Current Fast Charger (DCFC) stations throughout B.C. to support the growing number of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) on the road.

The program aims to fill current gaps in the public DCFC network in B.C. such as Indigenous communities, rural and northern areas, and city centers experiencing long queues for DCFCs due to high ZEV uptake.

Increased rebates of up to 90% of project costs (to a maximum of $130,000) per station are available for Indigenous-owned DCFC stations. The amount for rebates ranges from $50,000 to $130,000 depending on charger power output.

The program is administered on behalf of the Province by the Fraser Basin Council Society.  For details, and to apply visit the Public Charger Program website, or contact publiccharger@pluginbc.ca.

Go Electric Fleet Charging Program

The CleanBC Go Electric Fleet Charging Program is intended to support public, private, and Indigenous fleets transition to ZEVs.

The program takes a multi-pronged approach to address various barriers to ZEV adoption in fleets by offering financial and technical support. Indigenous communities and businesses are eligible for increased rebates for some of the program offers, as follows:

  • Up to 40 hours of ZEV Fleet Advisor Services.
  • 75% of costs (up to a max of $50,000) for fleet assessments and business case development.*
  • 75% of costs (up to a max of $5,000) for an EV infrastructure assessment.*

  • 75% of costs (up to a max of $4,000 per charger) for Level 2 charging station purchases and installations.
  • 75% of costs (up to a max of $35,000 per charger) for the purchase and installation of fast charging stations (20 to 49 kilowatts) for light-duty ZEV fleets.
  • 75% of costs (up to a max of $65,000 per charger) for the purchase and installation of fast charging stations (50 to 99 kilowatts) for light-duty ZEV fleets.
  • 75% of costs (up to a max of $90,000 per charger) for the purchase and installation of fast charging stations (100 to 199 kilowatts) for medium and heavy-duty ZEV fleets.
  • 75% of costs (up to a max of $115,000 per charger) for the purchase and installation of fast charging stations (over 200 kilowatts) for medium and heavy-duty ZEV fleets.

*As of January 22, 2024, these rebate offers are available only to Indigenous organizations that receive electricity from FortisBC. Indigenous applicants who receive electricity from BC Hydro can apply for electric fleet planning and infrastructure incentives through BC Hydro’s Fleet Electrification Program.

Increased rebates for EV chargers are available provincewide to Indigenous governments and organizations.

The program is administered on behalf of the Province by the Fraser Basin Council Society.  For details, and to apply visit the Fleet Charging Program website, or contact fleets@pluginbc.ca.
