Intimate images crisis support and resources

We know that what you’re going through may be upsetting and confusing.

On this page, you can find 24/7 crisis support, specialized support (e.g., legal services), and practical resources with information and guidance.

 

Crisis Support

Support is available, whenever you need it.

  • Call 911 if you or someone else is in immediate danger.

  • VictimLinkBC – 1-800-563-0808 (call or text)

    • A multilingual service that provides crisis and emotional support for victims of family and sexual violence.

  • Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre – 1-877-392-7583, online chat or text (604-245-2425)

    • Crisis and information line that provides immediate emotional support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Lamathut Crisis Line for Indigenous People – 1-800-721-0066

    •  A crisis line for Indigenous people that includes gender-based violence support.

  • Suicide Crisis Helpline - 9-8-8 (call or text)

    • Help for people who are feeling hopeless, struggling, thinking about suicide, or worried about someone else.

  • Kids Help Phone (for all ages) – 68-68-68 (text) or 1-800-668-6868 (call)

    • Connect with a volunteer crisis responder who can talk to you about any issue — big or small.

  • Stand Informed – Legal Advice
    • The Community Legal Assistance Society’s Stand Informed service is providing up to 3 hours of free and confidential legal advice for people in B.C. whose intimate images have been shared without consent.

  • VictimLinkBC – 1-800-563-0808 (call or text)
    • A multilingual service that can connect you with services across BC, including community-based victim services and counselling. They also provide 24/7 crisis and emotional support.
  • Legal Aid BC 
    • Offers a range of free legal services that may help you. They prioritize people with low incomes, but many services are available to all British Columbians.
  • Child and Youth Legal Centre
    • Provides legal support for young people who are dealing with many different legal issues. They help children and youth to make sure that their rights, interests, and points of view are heard and respected.
 

Help with ‘sextortion’ and blackmail

‘Sextortion’ is when someone threatens to send intimate images to others if you don’t send them money, more intimate images, or something else they want.

If you think you are a victim of sextortion, please contact us at the Intimate Images Protection Service for help.

If we are not available right away, you may want to:

1. Learn what steps you can take now

2. Get crisis support

3. Leave a message (voicemail or email) for the Intimate Images Protection Service.

  • We will connect with you as soon as possible.
