When you contact us
You can contact the Intimate Images Protection Service by phone or email. A member of the team will ask for some basic information to help us understand your situation and your needs. The way we support you will always be guided by your choices – we can help you with whatever pathway(s) you choose.
Everything you share with the Intimate Images Protection Service is confidential. Your information will not be shared with third parties unless you give us permission to, or in exceptional situations required by law. We can explain these situations before you share any personal information.
Help for children and youth
What you tell us is confidential.
- We will not share what you tell us with anyone else.
- In rare situations, we may be required by law to tell someone – for example, if you or someone else is in imminent danger. If you have concerns or questions about this, we can talk about it before you tell us anything.
It is your choice whether to involve your parent or guardian.
- The Intimate Images Protection Service will not contact your parent/guardian without your permission.
- If you’re not comfortable involving a parent/guardian, please still contact us. We will give you support and information about your options for what you can do next.
We know it can be hard to talk about this. If you choose to involve an adult:
- We can support you with talking to your parent, guardian, or another adult you trust.
- If you want us to, we can also directly talk to them about your situation.
The Intimate Images Protection Service can also help you by:
- Talking about what happened and how you’re feeling.
- Sharing information about your options, to help you decide what you want to do next.
- Connecting you with youth-focused services
- Need Help Now and Take It Down can help remove your intimate images from Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram, and other websites/apps.
- erase Report It Tool is an easy way to send a private message to your B.C school or school district’s safe school coordinator. You can report anonymously or include your name, and they will follow up on the situation right away.
You may also want to look at these resources for youth (and people supporting youth).
Help for parents and legal guardians
If someone has shared (or threatened to share) intimate images of your child/youth, you can contact us for support and information about your options.
- We know this can be hard to talk about. If you aren’t sure what to say to your child/youth, we can help.
- It is often best for your child/youth to be involved.
- Making decisions together about next steps can help them regain a sense of control.
- Whatever pathway you choose, your child/youth can help by sharing more information and helping collect evidence (e.g., copies of intimate images, screenshots of messages).
- We understand you may have other concerns about involving your child/youth – please reach out to us to discuss.
- We may be able to work with you directly if your child/youth:
- Is 11 years old or younger,
- Tells us they want us to work with you, on their behalf, or
- Has difficulty understanding the situation and expressing their views.
You may also want to look at these resources for youth (and people supporting youth).
