Crown Land Wildfire Risk Reduction
Last updated on August 14, 2024The CLWRR program is administered through the Ministry of Forests in collaboration with the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), Natural Resource Regions and Districts, BC Parks, and Mountain Resorts Branch. Highlights of the program include:
- Fuel management planning and treatments, focusing on provincial Crown land around higher risk communities
- Cultural and prescribed fire and the development of a comprehensive prescribed fire program
- Wildfire risk reduction activities targeting critical infrastructure, such as government owned radio repeaters, weather stations and airtanker bases
In the first three years, over $36M was invested in projects on provincial Crown land.

In preparing to develop a treatment plan to mitigate wildfire threat near values at risk, users may find the below suite of tools helpful in quantifying threat, developing treatment options, and prescribing a treatment plan.
Prescribed fire is the planned and controlled application of fire to a specific land area and is one of the most ecologically appropriate and relatively efficient means for achieving a variety of land management objectives.
A burn plan is required for any resource management open fire as per section 23 of the Wildfire Regulation and must be submitted to an official 60 days before the proposed ignition and must receive the official's approval to it in writing.
