WorkSafeBC claims for supervisors

Last updated on April 3, 2024

Supervisors are required by law to complete WorkSafeBC forms whenever incidents or injuries occur, even if they seem minor.

For immediate assistance, refer to Urgent support and reporting.

Workplace incidents and injuries

Employees may be eligible to receive WorkSafeBC benefits if a workplace injury requires medical attention and/or causes them to be absent from work.

If the employee loses time from work and/or seeks medical attention

The employee must:

  • Report the incident or injury using the Safety Incident Reporting Portal (SIRP)
  • Complete the Workplace Injury/Illness Report (including Form 6a). This can be done by any employee if the injury/ill employee is unable to complete the report themselves.

Once the Workplace Injury/Illness Report (including Form 6a) is submitted, an email is sent to the employee’s supervisor. The supervisor is responsible for completing the Supervisor Investigation (WorkSafe BC OHSR Part 3.10) and Form 7 as soon as possible after receiving the email.

WorkSafeBC regulation states the Supervisor Investigation (OHSR Part 3.10) and Form 7 must be completed within three business days of either the occurrence of the incident or when the supervisor first became aware of the injury.

If the employee does not seek medical attention and does not lose time from work but sought first aid treatment

Direct the employee to report it via SIRP. Note that the incident must only be reported once (i.e. not entered into SIRP by both the employee and the first aid attendant.)

The supervisor will be notified of their employee’s injury or illness via email which provides instructions on completing an investigation and Form 7.

Bullying and harassment claims

If you are a supervisor who is informed of a claim that alleges bullying or harassment:

Mental disorder claims are processed the same as other types of claims.
