Project: South Island Transportation Strategy
Location: Southern Vancouver Island
Assignment: Contract Value: $950,000
The South Island Transportation Strategy considered all modes of travel—transit, active transportation, marine, rail and roads, to improve integration and accessibility, reduce dependency on single-occupancy vehicles and support a healthy economy and communities.
The South Island Transportation Strategy was designed to shape growth in the region and mitigate concerns about traffic congestion and climate change.
Urban Systems Ltd. worked with Indigenous, local and regional governments, transportation authorities and key stakeholders to develop the strategy, who offered valuable perspectives on the various modes of transportation in the region.
The South Island Transportation Strategy demonstrates a shift toward advancing travel choices that integrate with sustainable land use. The project brings transportation, regional growth planning and land use together to strategize the distribution of regional growth and mitigate its impact on the environment and community.
