The Ministry of Agriculture has adopted standards to guide local government bylaw development in farming areas (per s.551 of the Local Government Act).
In May 2011, the Guide for Bylaw Development in Farming Areas (Bylaw Guide) was amended to include agricultural building setbacks from watercourses which were jointly created by the many stakeholders on the Partnership Committee on Agriculture and the Environment.
The Partnership Committee on Agriculture and the Environment created the following factsheet, which provides an overview on building setback standards from watercourses and wetlands in
farming areas.
A letter was sent to local governments advising of this update and to request bylaw review and amendment.
The Guide for Bylaw Development in Farming Areas provides local governments with standards for developing and amending their own bylaws affecting farming areas.
