The Office of the Chief Veterinarian and the Animal Health Centre support animal health in British Columbia through diagnostic testing services, disease surveillance, regulations, and licensing.

Animal Health Centre

The Animal Health Centre (AHC) provides world class veterinary diagnostic services that protect the health of all animals in B.C. to support disease prevention, control and eradication.

The AHC protects human health, with the timely and accurate diagnosis of zoonotic diseases that transmit from animals to humans, in both the public health and the food safety sectors:

Office of the Chief Veterinarian

The Office of the Chief Veterinarian (OCV) provides leadership for animal health policy and programming, One Health, and One Welfare in British Columbia.

OCV staff are responsible for provincial dairy, apiary, game farm, fur farm, and veterinary drug outlet licensing and inspections.

Canadian Food Inspection Agency is responsible for managing federally reportable animal diseases

British Columbia Centre for Disease Control: the BCCDC's Public Health Veterinarian is responsible for surveillance, prevention and control of zoonotic and foodborne pathogens, including rabies

Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is responsible for regulating animal welfare through the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act
