Sea to Sky Natural Resource District Road Safety Information

All resource road users are advised to check local weather and safety advisories, drive to the condition of the road and watch for hazards if heading into the backcountry. Please report any unsafe issues in the district to the Sea to Sky Natural Resource District office 604-898-2100

Road notices and warnings

Temporary Road Closures

  • Stawamus/Indian River FSR #4823
    • Active industrial operations, use caution.
    • Branch 01 (Stawamus/Indian mainline)
      • August 30, 2024 - December 31, 2024: Road closed to all users at gate at 3km due to construction activities. Single lane alternating traffic 0 - 3km. Expect 20-30 minute delays. Traffic control personnel on site. Road also closed to all users at 34.5km (no access through Indian Arm). Expect further closures through 2026.

      • August 5, 2024 - December 31, 2024: Intermittent road closures 0 - 1.5km, Monday - Friday (except public holidays) 7:00am - 5:00pm for Sea to Sky Gondola powerline installation project. Expect delays. Check in with traffic control personnel at the start of the FSR for details.
    • Branch 02 (Shannon Branch to Stawamus Chief and Sea to Sky Gondola) 
      • August 5, 2024 - December 31, 2024: Intermittent road closures Monday - Friday (except public holidays) 7:00am - 5:00pm for Sea to Sky Gondola powerline installation project. Expect delays. Check in with traffic control personnel at the start of the FSR for details.
        • Inquiries regarding Branch 02 road activities should be directed to the Sea to Sky Gondola (Kirby Brown at (604) 892-2550 or email Rob Walter. After hours or emergencies: 604-892-2555).
      • Gate closure at 4.2km in effect; no road access beyond this point. Parking for a limited number of vehicles available at the 4.2km location

February 2, 2017: Under Section 121 (9) of the Forest Act, please find notice of the deactivation or transfer of selected Forest Service Roads within the Sea to Sky Natural Resource District.
