Highway 1 - Kamloops to Alberta - Completed Projects

The following are completed projects, from west to east along the Trans-Canada Highway 1.

Highway 1 Kamloops to Alberta Four-Laning Program Highway 1 - Kamloops to Alberta - Four Laning Program - Completed

Monte Creek to Pritchard

10.5 km section of Highway 1 west of Chase widened to four lanes and other improvements including construction of a median, paved shoulders and turn lanes.

Status: Phase 1 completed in 2012; Phase 2 completed in 2016


Pritchard to Hoffman's Bluff

Widening of 5.8 km of highway and other improvements, approximately 10 km west of Chase.

Status: Phase 1 construction completed July 2015; Phase 2 construction started in 2015 and the new 4-lane section opened to traffic in December 2016.


Hilltop Road to Balmoral Road

Four-laning of 4.8 km of highway near Chase, including side road improvements, new interchange and upgrades to at-grade intersections.

Status: Completed 2011


Balmoral Road to Broderick Creek Property

Four-laning of 2.8 km of highway and intersection improvements at Notch Hill Road along Highway 1 between Chase and Salmon Arm.

Status: Complete 2001


Broderick Creek to Ford

Four-laning of 4.2 km of highway, reconstruction of White Lake Road intersection, including grade separation and improvements to 3.1 km of frontage roads between Chase and Salmon Arm.

Status: Completed 2004


Hospital Road to Highway 97B

Urban highway improvement in Salmon Arm including upgrades to and realignment of 4 km between 6th Street NE and Highway 97B to a four-lane design standard.

Status: Completed 2006


Malakwa Bridge

Four-laning of a 2.7 km section of highway 30 km east of Sicamous.

Status: Construction was completed in June 2016


Woods Overhead

On Highway 1 west of Revelstoke, replacement of Woods overhead structure and upgrades to 1.5 km to 100 km/h design standard that will accommodate future four lane construction.

Status: Completed 2004


Clanwilliam Overhead

Four-laning of 2.3 km of highway near Revelstoke, including replacement of the Clanwilliam overhead with a new four-lane structure.

Status: Completed 2013


Illecillewaet

Expanding the existing brake check area and four-laning a two kilometre section of Highway 1, 42 kilometres east of Revelstoke.

Status: Completed November 2021


North Fork

Bridge replacement between Sicamous and Revelstoke increased highway capacity from two to four lanes and improved traffic flow.

Status:  Completed fall 2018


Donald Bridge

Four-laning of 4 km of highway near Golden, including replacement of Donald Bridge with a new four-lane structure and replacement of CP Rail overhead.

Status: Completed 2013


Donald to Forde Station Rd

Four-laning of 2.5 km section and other related improvements 20 km west of Golden.

Status: Construction completed summer 2019


Kicking Horse Canyon Project

Four-laning and other Highway 1 improvements between the Highway 95 junction at Golden and the western boundary of Yoho National Park.

Status:

  • Phases 1-3 are complete (improvements totaling over 21 out of 26 kilometres)
  • Phase 4 was completed on July 31, 2024 (improvements over approximately 4.8 kilometres)
