Natal Supplement

Overview

A natal supplement is provided to pregnant recipients and to family units with a child twelve months of age or younger. This supplement is intended to assist in meeting extra costs associated with prenatal and postnatal expenses.

Eligibility

Effective:  August 1, 2023

A monthly natal supplement is provided to pregnant recipients of income assistance, disability assistance, or hardship assistance and to family units with a dependent child 12 months of age or younger.  The amounts provided under the natal supplement are shown in the Rate Table:  Health Supplements and Programs.  [See link under Resources]

The natal supplement is not contingent on any special dietary requirements.

Children in the home of a relative (CIHR) are eligible for the natal supplement.

Recipients of medical services only or transitional health services  are not eligible for the natal supplement. [see Related Links]

Procedures

 

Issuing Natal Supplement

Effective:  July 1, 2024

Recipients must provide written confirmation of pregnancy, the expected date of delivery and/or the number of weeks pregnant from a medical practitioner, a nurse practitioner or a midwife. The confirmation must be written on letterhead or a prescription pad.  The ministry is not responsible for any fees associated with required documentation.

Family units with a dependent child 12 months of age or younger must provide confirmation of the age of the child (for example, birth certificate or baptismal certificate if it specifies the child’s age).
