Highway 1 - Sackum Overhead Bridge Replacement

The Sackum Overhead Bridge is located on Highway 1, approximately 22 km east of Lytton and 13 km south of Spences Bridge. The bridge is approaching the end of its design life, and the replacement of the bridge will address safety concerns and projected user needs

This major route is a critical connection between the Lower Mainland and Northern B.C., a route for local communities and traveling public, and is an important alternative to Highway 5 (Coquihalla Highway) during highway closures, ensuring we keep B.C.'s economy moving. 

This project involves:

• Design and construction of a new 2-lane structure with a 75-year design life
• Compliance with current design standards and requirements for clearance and protection of rail crossing structures
• Realign highway including construction of new roadway embankment and pavement structure
• Remove sub-standard passing lane north of the bridge
