Willow River Bridge Replacement

Willow River Bridge is located on Upper Fraser Road, approximately 37 km north east of Prince George. The current single lane structure will be replaced with a modern two-lane bridge.
The original Willow River Bridge was built in 1957 and consisted of a wide single lane timber bridge. In March 2002 due to damage, the bridge was replaced with a temporary steel Acrow bridge that was intended to be replaced with a two-lane, permanent structure. This project will replace the temporary single lane bridge with a modern two-lane one, as well as realign 580 m of Upper Fraser Road and reconstruct 100 m of Arnett Road. These improvements will provide increased safety and mobility for residents and the traveling public.
During construction, the current Willow River Bridge will be used as a detour to ensure safe and effective traffic movement.
Status
- The tender has now closed and the contract has been awarded to Ruskin Construction Ltd.
- Construction speed zones in effect, off-road works underway
Project Benefits
This project will:
- Replace the aging single lane bridge with a modern two-lane bridge
- Realign 580 m of Upper Fraser Road for improved sight lines and movement
- Improve safety, capacity and mobility for local residents, pedestrians, cyclists, and the traveling public
